Mother's Day 9 May 2021

This year's Mother's Day is very different from Mother's Day last year. Last year I recall being very chillax, as there is no MYE due to Circuit Breaker for COVID, so last year I was treated like a Queen. Hubby and children prepared Korean cuisine for me. But this year, I was treated with the harsh reality of prepping them for exams amid the rise in community cases.

This year is the worst mid year exam prep ever. Mummy remembered the wrong dates, and children started  revision really late as they were in denial that exams are nearing. I tried to start them on revision like 2 weekends ago, but my pleas and warning fell on deaf ears!

So lo and behold, Mey had to crash her revision of 第一颗到第八课within a single day. Ray had to crash course his revision for Chinese P5A, P5B, P6A 第一颗到第六课within the same day. I told them they just have to fully utilize their brain capacity and remember as much as they can. Science they also had to finish "memorizing" their notes within half a day. Really have to 听天由命了。I did tell Ray he has to continue his momentum all the way throughout, as Aug is Prelims. And this time we will continue to study throughout the Jun holidays. I will be taking some leave in Jun to prep, but of course I do not have the luxury to take block leave like some Mummies can. Hopefully, this time we will achieve what we set out to do, instead of nuaing... haha.

Children still did their best to make my Mother's Day a memorable one. Mey gave me a beautiful card she made.

She wanted to get me a present, but as we did not have time to go Daiso, I asked her to buy me a cup of TB coffee instead.

Ray had time to go Daiso with me and I picked up this for him to buy for me. He bought coffee for me as well.

Of course, when Mey realized Ray managed to buy something, she started becoming grumpy. So looks like I will have to bring her to Daiso soon.

Saw this from FB, we went through a lot to give birth to our children, so treat ourselves well, not just Mother's Day, but everyday!

唢呐考级

2021 is a major milestone for Ray, his PSLE year. 2021 is also the year where MOE changed the scoring system from T-score to AL banding. Supposedly to make them less stress, as it focus on performance of oneself, however the feel I get is 换汤不换药. Still so stressful. Last year I was in blissful ignorance when he scored more than 70 marks for each subject. Very good right?! Turns out his AL score is 17, and with the recently disclosed details of the AL banding, he cannot even get to Tanjong Katong Secondary!! He wants to go Dunman High School and AL is 4-8! OMG, how to skip so many grades from 17 to 4?! All the more we need to bang our hopes on DSA. Lucky he loves music and does not mind playing Suo Na for 6 more years, however, I do worry if he can cope in DHS academically.

Anyways, we have to do a lot of things concurrently now, his Suo Na exam grading and his mid year exams. These 2 are critical for his DSA submission. Just a few days ago, his exam pieces far from completed, and we have to set up our room to simulate studio setting etc, a lot of work man. Fast forward to now, we finally managed to submit the recording. Thanks to Daddy who is damn good at set up and recording. I'm so pleased of the end product and so proud of Ray.

Time Flies

I stopped writing for a very LONG time. No time, no energy, and there seems to always be more important things to do. Now that I have my own notebook, decided it's time to start penning down the little things in life again.

Ray is going to be 12 years old. He is a child at heart in a big body. He wears L size shirts, and size 10 shoes. He totally skipped all the junior sizes. I just cannot keep up with his wardrobe changes. > <

This is him wearing my company jacket meant for Daddy. He inherited his Dad's broad shoulders. Think he is going to be a lot taller than me. Super happy that I have another set of broad shoulders to lean on.

Mey is 10 years old this year. Still so skinny. Good news is she passed 24kg! This year she started wearing glasses. Eyesight has not been a problem until suddenly few weeks ago, before the March holidays, she says she has problem seeing things in class. A visit to our optician in Bedok reveals her degree is suddenly 175degress on the right eye. Will have to be careful her eyesight does not deteriorate further.

Love it when she squints her eyes to take a big bite of food. :)

Mey is shy?!

We were on the topic of shyness while having dinner , and Mey said she is very shy right? At this point, my helper said that Mey will say wave hello to everyone at the bus stop as she cycles  by. Such that all the aunties and uncles know her by now, and one Uncle will even tell Mey I love you! Haha, so much for shyness. That is not considered shy lor. My girl is so cute! A while back, one auntie at the bus stop actually gave both Ray n Mey soft toys. Cos they were always entertaining her at the bus stop. 😂

Mey is sleeping alone!

Today, 27 Oct 2015, marks the first time that Mey is sleeping on her own without me by her side. Today she announced to me that she is old enough to sleep on her own, so I said sure, let's try it out. In my heart I was thinking it is probably like any other time when halfway through sleeping on her own, she will still end up snuggling next to me. Today however she succeeded!! She fell asleep on her own!! She will probably still wake up later to sleep with me,  but it is still a very good start. Well done girl! 😍

Mey's first art work from playgroup

Mey starting going to seeds when she is 2 yrs plus as we were worried she might not be able to attend the morning session in N 1 due to the long waiting list.  I attended the first few classes with her and this is her first art work.  Mainly done by her. She is quite good with pasting. Well done girl!

Mummy made sushi!!

Finally putting what I learnt to practice. I followed through the recipe diligently and conclusion is my own sushi rice tastes better. :p The rice is too dry n does not taste good. And the single rolls are triangular in shape.  However, the gunkan n california maki can pass in terms of presentation. Next time I shall follow my own recipe for rice n cook smaller portion. Shall make sushi with more ingredients n cut back on rice.^^
